Okay, this really needs saying. You (and I), we’re NOT bad if we eat chocolate, cake… whatever it is you think you’re not supposed to be eating.
As a coach, I know how much of an impact the things we say has on us.
We’ve all heard (I’m sure) and maybe said
“It’s naughty but nice.” Sounds harmless enough doesn’t it?
In reality what tends to happen when we have weight issues, is when we go ahead and eat that thing we’ve labelled as naughty, is we actually believe we are being naughty for allowing ourselves to eat it.
It might feel great at the time, but when we say this to ourselves or to the people we’re with, we can often be sabotaging our weight loss efforts.
And let me tell you eating any food on this planet does NOT make you a bad person.
Have you ever said this, or maybe heard it from someone else.
I was so bad, I ate a whole… chocolate bar”
Sure I’ve polished off several chocolate bars in one day, a whole pack of wafers, a whole swiss roll…. not so much these days, but I’ve done it. I’ve had days where I’ve just eaten pretty much constantly to fill a void, but this doesn’t make me bad. It just means at that moment in time I made a choice that didn’t support me in my desire to be my ideal weight. That’s it.
Often when we say things like, I was so naughty or that was bad… We end up feeling guilty and for the emotional eaters, like me, that’s not good news, because we’re more likely to just go ahead and grab something else we really don’t need to eat and the whole, that’s bad cycle continues.
Oh and just for the record, I have absolutely no intention of ever giving up chocolate. Just saying!!! 🙂
Do you recognise any part of this story?
If you do, you’re not going to be the only one. Now it’s time to change the story.
So what are you going to say to yourself instead of “That’s bad?”
