Today’s post is all about taking the slow and steady weight loss approach for long-lasting weight loss success.
Have you ever had quick success with weight loss but only been able to keep it off for a very short period of time. I definitely have and put more weight on, on top of the weight I’d lost.
Everyone seems to be in such a hurry to lose weight and sure I’d be over the moon if I reached my ideal weight in a week, who wouldn’t? But the reality is I’m not going to cut out the foods I love, I haven’t got 3 hours a day to spend exercising and I’m putting my hand up to loving life to the max.
In my opinion, the way you feel is equally if not more important than what you eat. So if you set yourself a strict diet and feel like crap, well that’s not going to work for very long is it and who wants to feel crap?
I’m not going to stress if we have pizza 3 nights in one week, I’m not going to feel guilty if I eat 2 chocolate wafers in one day. I’ve had rubbish eating habits for years, that’s not going to change completely overnight.
So I’m taking the slow road to my ideal weight and I feel good about it.
I’ve heard so many people who go to slimming clubs where they weigh in on a weekly basis complaining because they’ve been really good but only lost 1/2 a pound, stayed the same or lost a pound when they were hoping for at least 2 pounds weight loss each week.
I do get it that you want to lose the weight as fast as possible but let’s look at this realistically. For me personally, It took me about 14 years to really put the weight on, approximately 3 and a half stone.
What has been working for me
Now once I started walking, working on a positive mindset through the 30-day weight loss challenge and started making small changes to what I eat and drinking more water, I lost a stone in weight pretty quickly, well over the course of a few months. Since then things have slowed down, but the weight is still coming off consistently over time. Maybe half a pound a week or just staying the same for a few weeks.
I’m conscious of eating healthier, getting active more and making sure I keep working on a positive mindset. If I’m honest, when I started the challenge back in January 2015, I did think my weight loss journey would take about a year if I really stuck to it. That didn’t happen. I had spells where I’d lose regularly and spells where…, well, life took over and I wasn’t so focused. But the key is that I didn’t put weight back on.
As I update this post, I still have about a stone left to lose and I’m okay with that. I am so much healthier than I was back in 2015 and I have a really good relationship with food. I even kind of enjoy exercise these days.
So yes, progress has slowed down now, but it’s still progress and I’m still moving consistently in the right direction.
It’s not a failure
If I lose a pound a month, yes I’ll be happy with that. Of course, I’ll be happy if it’s more too. To be honest, if I lose a pound every couple of months I’ll be okay with that too. My point is that only losing 1/2 a pound or a pound is often seen as a failure. It’s not, it’s a success, every single tiny amount you lose is a success.
Law of attraction and weight loss
I’m going to stick my law of attraction hat on for a moment. Did you know I’m a qualified law of attraction practitioner? The law of attraction definitely responds to our thoughts and feelings, so let’s imagine that we lose 1 pound on a month. If you’re negative about this success, the law of attraction picks up on that energy and think you don’t want weight loss. Basically, you’ll always find it a real struggle.
Okay the law of attraction doesn’t actually think it simply responds to what we put out there, but this was the easiest way to get my point across.
Instead say, think, I love losing weight, every single pound moves me closer to my ideal weight.
Here are some of my favourite affirmations. You can use affirmations to help keep your thoughts really positive. You can find out more about affirmations for weight loss with a free copy of my Affirmations for weight loss mini guide
What you focus on expands. Celebrate every loss and you’ll have the law of attraction onboard to help you lose more.
Okay, that’s it from me for today, now it’s over to you. I’d love to hear from you. Let me know if you’re happy to take the slower road if needed?
Love yourself, love your body, be amazing!
