Could you walk just 30 minutes a day?
As a work at home mum, the time when my son is at school has to be work time. And I don’t want to be heading off to the gym and leaving him in the evening. So it’s essential for me to find ways to fit exercise into my day to day life.
I’ve found that walking is one of the best ways I can do this.
I’ve stopped using my pedometer. I washed it twice and now I’ve lost it.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I like to do 10,000 steps or more a day. I know this makes a massive difference to my weight and my health in general.
I know on the days I walk for 30 minutes in total plus my normal walking that I do around the house, pegging the washing out etc, I will have walked 10,000 steps by the end of the day.
Things have been a bit all over the place since Christmas and finally, now I feel like I’m finally getting back into a good routine.

I used to run my son up to the bus stop every morning in the car. Last year I started walking with him which meant I was walking 20-25 minutes in the morning and still starting work at roughly the same time.
Then I’d try to fit in a little walk mid afternoon, just 5 -10 minutes.
Due to my son being poorly at the beginning of the year, that routine stopped completely. He’s better now and I’m back to my daily walking.
When I walk in the morning I feel so much better. I can focus better and concentrate for longer. And when I get out for that quick afternoon walk, it really gives me an afternoon boost.
I’m not going to tell you I do this every day. I don’t, especially at the weekends, but most days is much better than nothing, which is exactly what I was doing at the beginning of last year.
Now what I noticed while I haven’t been walking regularly is that I can feel quite down in the dumps more easily, I get out of breath quicker doing normal things like going up and down the stairs a few times. I don’t like that feeling, it makes me worry about my health. As a single mum, that really scares me to think I am not looking after myself.
Another bonus walking just 30 minutes a day is my tummy muscles are tighter. I only really realized this when I wasn’t walking regularly and things got flabby again.
It’s simple – Your challenge is simply to walk for 30 minutes – Preferably outside – every day for 30 days.
This walking challenge is to boost your fitness levels and generally improve your health.
